Creating sites

Create a siteAn OpenX component that represents top-level domains or subdomains and is used to organize ad units. Sites enable you to target and report on inventory performance. in OpenX for each top-level domain and sub-domain on your app or website where you want to set up inventoryAd space available on a website or app. The basic unit of inventory for OpenX is an ad unit.. Once you have created a site, you can create all of the ad units you need for that site.

Tip: The settings that you see in your screens may vary depending on your OpenX configuration, account typeIndicates the intended purpose of an account, which determines what objects it can contain and influences what users logged in to the account can do in OpenX. For example, advertiser accounts contain orders, publisher accounts contain inventory, and ad networks contain other accounts., and user access.

Adding a site

  1. Go to the Inventory tab.

  2. In the list of publishers, click the one for which you want to create a site. The View Publisher screen is displayed.

    Tip: You can copy an existing site and all of its ad units by selecting it and clicking the clone icon. You can then edit the site and ad units to make any desired changes.

  3. Click Create Site.

    The Create Site screen opens. OpenX automatically populates the Publisher setting.

    Note: After you create and save the site, you cannot change the Publisher setting for the site.

  4. In the Name field, type in a unique name for the new site.

  5. From the Default Delivery MediumThe manner in which an end-user is exposed to ad inventory, such as web or mobile. list, select the default way that ads will be viewed for this site. OpenX uses the Default Delivery Medium to determine what types of ad units you can create for the site. These are the default delivery medium options:

  6. For a Mobile site:

    • Select a mobile Platform. This can be one of the following:

      • Android, for mobile applications on the Android platform

      • Mobile Web, for mobile websites

        Important: Do not choose this if you are creating a Video Mobile Web Site (In Beta). A Video Mobile Web Site's Default Delivery Medium should be Linear Video, not Mobile.

      • Other, for other mobile platforms, such as WebOS

      • iOS, for mobile applications on the iOS platform

    Tip: For native ad units, the Platform selection on the container site helps with reporting for apps and mobile web, so you may need multiple sites to allow reporting for multiple platforms.

    • Depending on the selected Platform, specify one of the following settings for the location of the inventory:

      • Android. In the Market URL field, enter the Google Play package name for the mobile app in which you want to serve ads, such as

      • Mobile Web or Other. Type the Site URL for the mobile site where you want to serve ads.

      • iOS. Type in the AppStoreURL for the mobile application in which you want to serve ads, using the format:[country]/app/[App-Name]/id[App-ID]?mt=8

  7. From the Audience list, select the age of the intended audience. For more details, see regulations.

  8. In the URL field (for all delivery mediums except Mobile), type in the URL for the new site, using the format:

  9. (Optional) Specify the following Default Content settings for the new site:

  10. If enabled, update the Publisher Revenue ModelThe revenue relationship or deal type established between an ad network and the publishers that they directly manage. setting for this site to specify how to split revenue for all ad units that belong to it.

    By default, the site inherits the revenue model for the publisherAn account type that represents a business with ad space to sell. account that the site belongs to. As necessary, you can also change the revenue model for each ad unitThe smallest inventory component that represents the space on a site where ads display. that belongs to the site (when creating or editing an ad unit).

  11. (Optional) Enable and set Auto Refresh Settings for web ad units (using JavaScript or iframe ad tags), or mobile ad units that belong to the site.

  12. (Optional) Specify the following additional details for the new site:

  13. Complete site setup; do one of the following:

    • Click Create. The Create Site screen closes, and a confirmation message for the new site appears above the sites list. You can create ad units for the site at a later time.

    • Click Create and Add Another Site. The Create Site screen is displayed, and you can begin creating another site for this account.

    • Click the down arrow. Select Create and Add Ad Unit. The Create Ad Unit screen is displayed, and you can begin creating an ad unit for the site.

When you finish adding a new site, it is displayed in your list of sites on the view publisher screen.
