Creating sites

You need to create a siteAn OpenX component that represents top-level domains or subdomains and is used to organize ad units. Sites enable you to target and report on inventory performance. for each top-level domain and sub-domain on your app or website where you want to set up inventoryAd space available on a website or app. The basic unit of inventory for OpenX is an ad unit.. You can clone an existing site and all of its ad units and edit them to make any desired changes. Once you have created a site, you can create all of the ad units you need for that site.

Note that the settings that you see on your pages may vary depending on your OpenX configuration, account typeIndicates the intended purpose of an account, which determines what objects it can contain and influences what users logged in to the account can do in OpenX. For example, advertiser accounts contain orders, publisher accounts contain inventory, and ad networks contain other accounts., and user access.

To add a site:

  1. In the OpenX UI, go to the Inventory > Publishers and click the publisherAn account type that represents a business with ad space to sell. account for which you want to create a site.

  2. On the Sites page of the selected publisher, click Create Site.

    The Create Site page is displayed with the Publisher setting automatically selected.

  3. In the Name field, enter a unique name for the site.

  4. From the Default Delivery MediumThe manner in which an end-user is exposed to ad inventory, such as web or mobile. list, select the default way that ads will be viewed for this site.

    Important: Make sure to select the correct option for the types of ads you need to display, for example, if you are creating a video mobile webRefers to the use of the Internet via a mobile device web browser, specifically to differentiate from mobile app. site, do not select Mobile or Web, select Linear VideoA video ad or ad unit that typically appears in a video player before (pre-roll), after (post-roll), or during a break (mid-roll) in the streamed content. In addition to the in-stream format, linear video ad units may include interstitial, out-stream, and opt-in formats. They may also be accompanied by companion ads and include interactive components.. For details, see the Site settings table below.

  5. If you selected Mobile in theDefault Delivery Medium list:

    1. Select the appropriate mobile Platform.

    2. Depending on the selected Platform, specify the appropriate URL for the location of the inventory as described in the Site settings table below.

  6. From the Audience list, select the age of the intended audience. For more details, see regulations.

  7. If enabled, update the Publisher Revenue ModelThe revenue relationship or deal type established between an ad network and the publishers that they directly manage. setting for this site to specify how to split revenue for all ad units that belong to it.

    By default, the site inherits the revenue model for the publisher account that the site belongs to. You can also change the revenue model for each ad unitThe smallest inventory component that represents the space on a site where ads display. that belongs to the site when creating or editing its ad units.

  8. If needed, provide any optional information for the site as described in the Site settings table below.
  9. To complete the ad unit setup, do one of the following:

    • Click Create.

      A confirmation message for the new site appears at the top of the page. You can create ad units for the site at a later time.

    • Click Create and Add Another Site.

      A new Create Site form appears with a confirmation message for the new site. You can begin creating another site for the same publisher.

    • Click the down arrow next to Create & Add Another Site and then Create & Add Ad Unit.

      The Create Ad Unit page appears, and you can begin creating an ad unit for the site.

When you finish adding a new site, it is displayed in your list of sites on the view publisher screen.

Site settings

An Inventory screen on which you can create sites.

Setting Description
Name Enter a unique, descriptive name for the site.
Publisher This setting is automatically set to the publisher you have selected to create the new site for.
Default Delivery Medium

Select the default way that ads will be viewed for this site. OpenX uses the default delivery medium to determine what types of ad units you can create for the site.

Important: Make sure to select the correct option for the types of ads you need to display, for example, if you are creating a video mobile web site, do not select Mobile or Web, select Linear Video.

Platform

This setting appears only when you select Mobile as the default delivery medium.

Select the appropriate platform:

  • Android, for mobile applications on the Android platform.
  • iOS, for mobile applications on the iOS platform.

  • Mobile Web, for mobile websites.
  • Other, for other mobile platforms, such as WebOS.

Audience Select the age of the intended audience. For more details, see regulations.
URL

Depending on the selected Platform (if you have selected Mobile as the default delivery medium), specify one of the following settings for the location of the inventory:

For any other sites, enter the URL for the new site, using the format:

http://www.yourpublisher.com

Default Content TopicDescribes the main subject of the online content surrounding the ad space, such as sports or automotive.

Select the default content topic for the site, which describes the main subject of online content surrounding the available ad space on the site.

 

Default Content Type Select the default content type for the site, which describes the main function of the online content surrounding the available ad space on the site.
Publisher Revenue Model

Specify how to split revenue for all ad units that belong to it.

By default, the site inherits the revenue model for the publisher account that the site belongs to. You can also change the revenue model for each ad unit that belongs to this site when creating or editing its ad units.

Auto Refresh Settings (Optional) Enable and set Auto Refresh Settings for web ad units (using JavaScript or iframe ad tags), or mobile ad units that belong to the site.
External IdentifierA free-form reference ID. For example, "Debbie's Account." (Optional) Enter a free-form reference ID.
Notes (Optional) Enter any additional information for the site.
