Adding creative templates

CreativeThe media asset associated with an ad, such as an image or video file. templates allow you to create custom code for non-standard ad formats so that it can be reused by other users when creating HTML ads. Creative templates speed up the process of creating multiple similar ads.

If creative templates are enabled for your account, a list of creative templates is displayed on the Admin > Templates tab. If you have admin privileges, you can create, edit, and delete creative templates; otherwise, you can only read details for the templates. View a creative template sample

To add a creative template:

  1. Go to Admin > Templates in OpenX Ad Server.

  2. Click Create New Template.

    The Create Template screen is displayed.

  3. Enter a unique name for the template and provide a description to help users recognize it.

  4. (Optional) Click Add a Custom MacroFor OpenX, a command enclosed in curly braces {} that dynamically inserts attributes into your HTML or third-party ad creatives and click-through URLs when OpenX serves an ad. Other macros, like from your video player, may have alternate formatting. to add one or more macros to be used with the template code.

    1. Give the macro a unique name.

    2. If you want to require users to enter a value for a Text macro, select the check box. Checking this box will hide the Default Value field.

    3. Choose the TypeText or File.

      • Text: If a value is not required, enter a default value to be used for new creatives.

      • File: Click Browse to locate the desired file.

    4. Enter a description of the macro to be displayed when users click a tool tip next to the macro on the Create a Creative screen.

    5. Click Save. Repeat for any additional macros.

  5. Enter the code for your creative templateEnables the creation of custom code for non-standard ad formats that can be reused to speed up the process of creating multiple similar ads.. This can consist of HTML code, ad tags, OpenX macros, and variables for custom macros.

  6. (Optional) Select an OpenX macro or a custom macro from the drop-down list, and click Insert Macro.

  7. Click Save Template.

    The template is now available to be applied to HTML Ads.

Tip: Once a template is used to create ads, you cannot edit the template if any of its ads are active. To edit the template, you must first pause the ad and notify the ad's users.
