Selecting an ad from the winning line item

After OpenX selects the winning line itemThe primary unit of execution for an order, which represents a specific inventory purchase and the required conditions for ad delivery., it determines which ad to serve from among active ads in the line item. To do this, OpenX applies ad-level settings, such as time-of-day flighting, day-of-week flighting, or frequency cappingUsing cookies to track the impression count of ads served and stop any given ad being shown to a single visitor more than the set number of times.. Then it uses the winning line item's Ad Delivery Mode to determine weighting, and selects the appropriate ad.

If OpenX determines that the winning line item has no eligible ad, then it removes the line item from the candidate set and repeats step 3 (selecting an eligible line item based on priorityIndicates which deal or line item should take precedence in the case that multiple deals or line items are eligible to serve for a given ad request.) in the ad selection process.
