Overriding forecasts

Set overrides on individual ad units to gain more control of your inventoryAd space available on a website or app. The basic unit of inventory for OpenX is an ad unit. forecasts. For example, if you anticipate more traffic than normal for a specific ad unitThe smallest inventory component that represents the space on a site where ads display., you can manipulate the forecast data to allow sales into the anticipated traffic increase. After you set a forecast override, the forecast graph updates based on the change.

To override forecasts:

  1. Click the Override subtab, and choose the ad unit to view and/or set overrides for. Then click Forecast in the graph. (By default you see the ImpressionA single display of an ad on a web page, mobile app, or other delivery medium. For deals, impression is a metric to relay the total number of ads that have served.     This updates the chart to display forecast data for the selected ad unit, along with any overrides already set for that ad unit. By default, the graph displays plots for Forecast (green) and Last Year Impression (blue) for the ad unit, which you can click to toggle on and off as necessary.

  2. To focus your view on the dates you're interested in, use the date picker at the bottom of the screen. Select a preset date range in the list, or set specific dates.

    This updates the graph to display the plot for those dates only. (You can drag the control bars as needed to reduce or expand the date range.)

  3. Click Edit Overrides next to the selected ad unit. This opens the Edit Overrides screen, where you can set or change overrides for the ad unit for each day during the selected time frame. For each Date, you can view the actual impressions (Impression) and Forecast for the selected ad unit.

  4. Click in the Forecast Value Override column for the date you want to set the override for, and type in the new forecast value. (You can set overrides for multiple dates at the same time.)

  5. Click Submit. The Forecast graph for the selected ad unit refreshes to show the new overrides where they occur in the plot.

  6. Set more forecast overrides or change existing ones, as needed.
