You can create a packageA bundle of targeting criteria for similar inventory segments which you can offer at a predetermined price (typically to facilitate regular sales efforts) and automatically create line items from in OpenX. from the InventoryAd space available on a website or app. The basic unit of inventory for OpenX is an ad unit. > Packages tab. Alternatively, you can create a new package when you create or edit deals or pricing controls.
To create a package:
Click Create a new package to view the Create Package screen in any of the following scenarios:
Creating a package from the Inventory > Packages tab.
Creating or editing a deal.
Creating or editing a floor.
Important: If you modify an existing package, make sure that you know which other floors and Private MarketplaceThe packaging, offering, and selling of high quality inventory to a limited set of buyers. Abbreviated as PMP. deals are using that package, as they will be impacted. To see where the package is used, open the Deals and Pricing Controls tabs (if enabled for your account) and filter the list to show only items with this package.
- Check the on behalf of account, next to the Create Package title, to verify that you are creating the package in the correct account.
Note: If you have a network account and create a package at the network level, users who do not have network level access will not be able to access the package.
In Package Details, enter information pertaining to the package.

Define the package by elements such as the targeting criteriaThe rules that define how a creative should be targeted for delivery to viewers. There are several types of targeting criteria: audience targeting, custom targeting, geographic targeting, inventory and content targeting, screen type (delivery media) targeting, and technology and devices targeting..
Set the start and end date for a package by selecting the calendar icon. If no dates are selected, the package will be active upon creation and will have no end date.
Contact Name (Optional)
Identify the package contact if buyers have questions pertaining to the package.
Provide the email of the package contact if buyers have questions pertaining to the package.
In the Merchandising Details section, add additional package information.
Package Logo (URL)
Add a logo to the package.
Define the domains associated with the package.
This field is required only when Private Marketplace Rates are made discoverable, or when a demand partnerA company which purchases ad inventory on OpenX Ad Exchange. has been identified in the Discovery, Participants & Pricing Rates section. Otherwise, this field is optional.
List examples of URLs included within the defined domain.

Note: If no targeting is selected, the targeting of the package will be set to MATCH ALL.
In the Discovery, Participants, & Pricing Rates section, make the package discoverable and provide package rate information for Direct and Private Marketplace packages.
Direct Package Rates
Define the rate cardPublishers compile rate cards to list prices for advertising on their sites. Larger sites usually give rates on a CPM basis. Technical details regarding banner size and positioning may also be included. CPMCost per mille, a pricing method which calculates cost based on the number of impressions (per 1000)..
Private Marketplace Package Rates
Define the rate card CPM for a Private Marketplace Package.
Enter the CPM for the package. You can also enter a Discounted / List Price value, which causes the rate card price to be displayed as a strike-through price to emphasize the discounted price for the buyerA company that pays a demand partner to purchase ad inventory on OpenX Ad Exchange..
Expanding this field and clicking the toggle button to Yes allows you to make this rate Discoverable to all buyers.
You can also specify different rates for different Demand Partners.
Be sure to make your packages compelling to demand partners. Use the best practices below to guide your package creation.
Offer compelling inventory
Demand partners look for exclusive, compelling inventory. Some examples of compelling inventory include:
- Creating packages based on audience segments or which include highly-viewable placements.
- Offering contextually-targeted packages, such as "Sports" packages which target sports sections on news sites.
Broaden the reach
Offer a package with large appeal like a "Home & Garden" package. A "Garden Hose" package limits the target audience.
Include additional package information
To create a package, you must include the Package Name and the Domains within the package. Including the following fields helps your demand partners to better understand your packages:
- Contact Name
- Contact Email
- Private Marketplace Package Rates
