Inventory and content targeting

Target the content in which the ad space exists, and which an end-user is actively viewing. For example, you might use inventoryAd space available on a website or app. The basic unit of inventory for OpenX is an ad unit. and content targetingA targeting dimension that describes the context and layout that the ad space exists within. to place an airline company's ads on specific travel sites, or to place their ads on sites with content topics like travel or vacation.

When you set content targeting, you can specify inventory, such as particular publishers, sites, sections, or ad units to target or block. In addition, you can target inventory attributes such as ad unitThe smallest inventory component that represents the space on a site where ads display. size or screen locationWhere the ad is on the page, such as above the fold (ATF) or below the fold (BTF). This is also referred to as "page position" or "page placement.".

Depending on the object that you are setting targeting criteriaThe rules that define how a creative should be targeted for delivery to viewers. There are several types of targeting criteria: audience targeting, custom targeting, geographic targeting, inventory and content targeting, screen type (delivery media) targeting, and technology and devices targeting. for, the available ad unit sizes vary:

App Bundle ID

Enter one or more App Bundle IDs to include or exclude. This selection also permits matching All or Any of the listed App Bundle IDs.

Category

Select one or more IAB categories to include or exclude.

Note: Categories not permitted by OpenX are filtered from results. For example: Adult.

Content TopicDescribes the main subject of the online content surrounding the ad space, such as sports or automotive.

  • Contains all of

  • Contains none of

Select one or more content topics to include or exclude.

Note: Targeting a top-level content topic does not target its sub-topics. For example, targeting the top-level topic Automotive does not target Automotive: Trucks or Automotive: Cars. However, selecting the Automotive: All will target all Automotive content topics.

Content Type
  • Equals

  • Does not equal

Select one or more content types to include or exclude.

Inventory
  • Equals

  • Does not equal

You can also use a combination of including and excluding.

Include or exclude the following from your targeting:

  • Networks

  • Publishers
  • Sites

  • Ad units

  • Ad unit groups

You can only target inventory that your user account has access to.

Page URL
  • Equals

  • Contains

  • Begins with

  • Does not end with

  • Does not contain

  • Does not begin with

Enter one or more page URLs to include or exclude.

Referring URL
  • Equals

Select whether the location is above, below, or spans the fold, and whether it is left, right, or center.
