Inventory and content targeting

InventoryAd space available on a website or app. The basic unit of inventory for OpenX is an ad unit. and content targetingA targeting dimension that describes the context and layout that the ad space exists within. enables you to define targeting dimensions related to the inventory itself and the content surrounding that inventory. For example, you could use inventory and content targeting to place an airline company's ads on specific travel sites, or to place their ads on sites with travel-related content topics.

When you set content targeting, you can specify inventory, such as particular publishers, sites, sections, or ad units to target or block. In addition, you can target inventory attributes such as ad unitThe smallest inventory component that represents the space on a site where ads display. size or screen locationWhere the ad is on the page, such as above the fold (ATF) or below the fold (BTF). This is also referred to as "page position" or "page placement.".

Depending on the object for which you are setting targeting criteriaThe rules that define how a creative should be targeted for delivery to viewers. There are several types of targeting criteria: audience targeting, custom targeting, geographic targeting, inventory and content targeting, screen type (delivery media) targeting, and technology and devices targeting., the available ad unit sizes vary:

App Bundle ID (only available when setting up targeting in deals andpackages)

Enter one or more App Bundle IDs to include or exclude. This selection also permits matching All or Any of the listed App Bundle IDs.

Important: The maximum number of App Bundle IDs you can input is 500 (total).

Content TopicDescribes the main subject of the online content surrounding the ad space, such as sports or automotive.

Select one or more content topics to include or exclude.

Note: Targeting a top-level content topic does not target its sub-topics. For example, targeting the top-level topic Automotive does not target Automotive: Trucks or Automotive: Cars. However, selecting Automotive: All does target all Automotive content topics.

Select one or more content types to include or exclude.

Inventory
  • Equals

  • Does not equal

You can also use a combination of including and excluding.

Include or exclude the following:

  • Networks

  • Publishers
  • Sites

  • Ad units

  • Ad unit groups

You can only target inventory that your user account has access to.

Page URL
  • Equals

  • Does not equal

  • Ends with

  • Contains

  • Begins with

  • Does not end with

  • Does not contain

  • Does not begin with

Enter one or more page URLs to include or exclude.

Important: This field is case-sensitive. The maximum number of URLs you can input is 500 (total).
