Privacy and Regulatory Controls
Last updated on August 10, 2020
Some web and mobile app inventory is subject to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and California’s SB-568. You must identify the intended audience of your site or mobile app when you create it.
OpenX provides the following privacy control mechanisms:
- Cookie-based opt-out: Sets the opt-out cookie for the user
- Do Not Track (DNT) header-based opt-out: Relies on a privacy setting within the user’s web browser
- Status check: Allows end users to check their opt-out status and determine if you have already tracked them
These topics assume that you understand applicable local laws, which may dictate certain responsibilities you have as a website owner or as an organization placing ads on third-party websites. It is up to you to determine if, when, and where to expose these controls to end users.
