Support SKAdNetwork and Additional Data Signals for iOS14 Traffic

OpenX now supports Apple’s SKAdNetwork and sends additional data signals for iOS14 privacy changes. This allows OpenX to receive and pass further information essential for DSPs to attribute the app installation conversion via the SKAdNetwork framework. In addition, when the signal is sent in an Ad Request, OpenX will pass the following additional fields:

  • IDFV
  • DEVUSERID
  • SESSIONDURATION
  • IMPDEPTH

These fields enable buyers to keep under control the frequency capping and fraud detection for traffic deprived of IDFAs.

September 22, 2020

Support for Google’s Consented Providers String for TCF v2

OpenX now supports Google’s additional Consented Providers string for TCF v2. Google recognizes that there are still several vendors who have not registered on the Global Vendor List (GVL) and wants to give publishers the opportunity to declare they have collected consent for these non-GVL vendors, provided these vendors are on a pre-approved Google list “Ad Technology Provider (ATP)” list. For this purpose, they have created the “Additional Consented” providers string.

June 11, 2020

Additional Prebid User ID Module Support

The OpenX Prebid Adapter has added support for the following User ID Modules: LiveIntent, id5, Parrable, Britepool, Criteo, and Pubcommon. This is in addition to our support for the LiveRamp IdentityLink, The Trade Desk UnifiedID, and Digitrust ID modules. To enable these newly supported user ID sub-modules in your OpenX Prebid Adapter, prebid core version 3.14+ is required, but we recommend updating to the latest version of Prebid.js.

Rich Media Support

OpenX now allows you to run Celtra’s popular Interscroller and Miniscroller mobile web ad units through its existing header bidding integrations, with no additional integration work, no new contracts, and no additional ads.txt files. All you need to do is to identify the inventory you want to make available and opt in to the multi-publisher PMP deals that OpenX creates for each supported ad unit.

October 4, 2018

Updated Domain Rejection Reasons for Traffic Quality

As part of its ongoing commitment to traffic quality, OpenX has updated its list of domain rejection reasons. New reasons, such as COPPA Compliance, Incentivized, and Not Found in App Store, have been added, and explanations of some of the existing ones have been updated for more precision and clarity. For a complete list, see Domain reviews.

Bulk Removal in Ad Quality Filters

You can remove all items in some ad quality filters with one action. This can be useful if, for example, you want to quickly purge an out-of-date list and replace it with a new one for accurate filtering. Just click the Remove All link for Industries, Brands, Domains, or Application IDs lists in the Ad Quality form.

September 20, 2018

Reports in Japanese

Reporting is now available in Japanese. The translation of My Reports, Data Explorer, and the reporting dashboards makes it easier for Japanese-speaking publishers to track inventory performance and make informed decisions about monetization. To view reports in Japanese, set the Locale to Japanese in your user account.

New Inventory Operations User Role

OpenX now provides an Inventory Operations user role, which grants the ability to create and manage Private Marketplace packages and deals as well as all of the access of the Reporting Only role. If you currently have access to reporting only and need to be able to also work with packages and deals, contact OpenX to gain additional access.

June 28, 2018

Gross Revenue and Gross CPM metrics in Data Explorer

You can now select Gross Revenue and Gross CPM as metrics in the Data Explorer Near Real-time report for programmatic direct inventory. These gross metrics let you check fees and evaluate whether advertiser spend (gross CPM) is meeting the deal price.

May 31, 2018

Ad Quality Filters on Performance Metrics

Performance metrics allow you to place limits on the file weight of creatives displayed on your site or the number of requests they can make as they load. While setting either the Max File Weight Limit or Total Request Limit can improve user experience, it will reduce your potential revenue. The settings recommended by OpenX appear in the user interface as blue tick marks on sliders. Learn more. Performance metrics settings are not supported for linear video.

New Discard Reasons in Blocked Advertisers Report

You will now be able to see additional block types in the Blocked Advertisers report: specifically, the number of creative requests and creative file weight. This will allow you to evaluate the revenue opportunity associated with ads that are blocked based on performance metrics filters.

video_perf Report Deprecated

OpenX has deprecated the video_perf report from the Platform API to ensure that you use the most current reporting API and to eliminate data discrepancies associated with some legacy reports. You can use the Video Events report to track event metrics for video impressions.

ISO Country Codes Now Available in exch_perf Report

When running the exch_perf report via the Platform API, you can now include the two-letter ISO country codes rather than country names to better synchronize your data.

May 3, 2018

Opt-in Video for Data Explorer

April 19, 2018

Change to the Reporting Timezone in Data Explorer

Data Explorer reporting now uses the timezone of the publisher instance instead of the user account timezone. This update creates consistency between publisher report experiences within the OpenX UI.

April 6, 2018

Improved Geo Data for Mobile Ad Requests

The way that mobile geo data is passed from publishers to buyers has been improved in the mobile Ad Request API so that there is a clear distinction between user-provided geo data and device location data.

If you provide location data from the user’s device (such as lat and lon or ip), this will be passed to buyers as device.geo. User-provided location data that you provide in the cnt, cty, stt, zip, and dma parameters will be passed to buyers in user.geo.

This distinction will help buyers process valuable location data for your inventory.

March 22, 2018

Easier onboarding and Inventory Setup with Site Cloning

You can now clone a site and the ad units it contains for easier inventory setup and management. This update reduces the time you spend to create similar sites and associated ad units. This is particularly helpful for app publishers who are set up as separate sites, but have similar ad units within each app.

New Ad Quality Attribute

You can now set an additional ad quality attribute, Animation, which provides a mechanism for blocking animation ads.

Publisher Currency Attribute Added to Several Reports

You can now add the Publisher Currency attribute in the Ad Server Report, Audience Segment by Account Report, Audience Segment by Site Report, Mobile App Revenue Report, and Video Events Report. In a network where multiple currencies are supported, this allows you to see the currency of the revenue for different publishers.

OpenX Ad Server Line Item Creation Notice Added

If you use both OpenX Ad Server and OpenX Ad Exchange and create line items, you will now see a notice when you combine the following setup choices:

  • Buying Model = Non-Guaranteed
  • This is a Make Good Line Item = Yes

The new notice reminds you that when you make the above selections, only direct traffic will be considered for your line item.

March 15, 2018

New attributes added to Video Events Report

Ad Type NameType of video.
Line Item Status NameStatus of the line item, such as active, paused, or expired.
Order Status NameStatus of the order, such as active, paused, or expired.

OpenRTB 2.5 Metric Object

OpenX now supports the Metric object from IAB’s OpenRTB 2.5 specification, which provides an array of Metric objects that offer insight into different metrics about the impression to assist with DSP decisioning (such as viewability). Each metric is identified by its type, reports the value of the metric, and optionally identifies the source or vendor measuring the value.

To enable this object or receive more information, please contact your Platform Development Manager.

NOTE

OpenX will no longer support our legacy viewability extensions after December 31, 2017. We recommend that our demand partners update their integrations to support the Metric object prior to this date to avoid any interruption in service.

July 14, 2017

Source Object Support

OpenX now supports the Source object from IAB’s OpenRTB 2.5 specification, which describes the nature and behavior of the entity that is the source of the bid request upstream from the OpenX Ad Exchange. The primary purpose of this object is to define post-auction or upstream decisioning when the exchange itself does not control the final decision. A common example of this is header bidding.

To enable this object or receive more information, please contact your Business Development Manager.

April 20, 2017

Signal for Guaranteed Deals in Real-time Guaranteed (RTG) Requests

If you are still using the legacy reporting UI, please switch to the My Reports UI instead, and make use of the pre-configured reports that are equivalent to popular legacy reports.

Please note that this deactivation will not impact the existing Reporting API, and any reporting calls will continue to be supported without interruption, or the need for updates.

Enhancements to Ad Exchange for Buyers (AXB)

AXB has been enhanced to provide the following new features:

Updated AXB Home Page

The new AXB Home Page is your starting point for quick reporting statistics and trend chart visualization. It has been redesigned to load faster and also provide a detailed table view of your order/line item/ad performance and status.

My Reports and Scheduled Reports

Using the Reports tab, you can easily create, save, and schedule automated email delivery of your own custom reports. Your saved reports are displayed in a simple directory view so you can edit, copy, and manage versions. Scheduled reports can be set up to deliver on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to the email addresses you specify.

Expanded Mobile Inventory Info

In the new Performance by Placement Report, you can now analyze your performance based on Mobile App Name and App Bundle ID, similar to sub-domain for Desktop inventory. This can help with optimizing your performance across specific supply types.

Real-Time Bidding Health Statistics

For demand partners using real-time bidding, the new RTB Health Stats Report provides key bidding-related metrics such as bid rate, win rate, timeout rate, and error rate to confirm that bidding is properly setup to maximize opportunity.

Performance by Geo Report

The Performance by Geo report shows detailed qualitative and quantitative data about each order. This report provides additional breakout by geo (country, city, state) rather than by placement or hourly breakout.

Hourly Performance Report

The Hourly Performance report displays key performance metrics broken out by hour. Similar to other campaign performance reports, but instead of placement or geo data, it provides hourly breakout metrics up to 96 hours, retrospectively.

August 11, 2016

GZIP Compression is Supported for Bid Requests and Responses

In OpenRTB, demand partners can now receive GZIP compressed bid requests and send GZIP compressed bids to reduce bandwidth usage.
