Create a Deal

The openx-deal-creation skill guides the AI assistant through creating an OpenX XP deal and its targeting package. The assistant resolves every targeting ID, checks OpenX’s targeting rules before it creates anything, and creates the deal paused, so the deal does not become biddable until you activate it. When you are ready, you can ask your agent to activate the deal through the OpenX MCP.

To create a deal as part of an OpenXDirect™ campaign (order, line item and creative), use Launch a Campaign instead.

When to Use It

  • Create or set up a new deal. For example, “Make a deal for TTD Seat ID ABC 123”.
  • Ask which formats, devices, channels or quality thresholds can be combined in one deal.
  • Ask what deal type or pricing a new deal gets.
  • Recover from a deal creation attempt that failed.

What You Need

The assistant asks for anything missing in a single message before it creates anything.

  • Name and dates: the deal name, a start date, and an optional end date.
  • Demand partner (DSP): DSP name, and at least one Seat ID.
  • Format, devices and channel: Banner, Video, CTV or Native; desktop, mobile or TV; web, app or both. If you name only a format, the assistant applies that format’s defaults and lists them in the summary.
  • Optional targeting: any targeting OpenX supports, for example geography, websites, apps, content categories, audiences, and a viewability or VTR (video completion rate) threshold.
  • Currency: defaults to the account’s currency, or USD when the account has none.
  • The price is a CPM in the deal’s currency. Without a price, OpenX applies a minimum of 0.01. A price on its own is a floor; ask for a fixed price if you need one.

How It Works

  1. Check the rules. It checks the request against the targeting rules below. If the request breaks a rule, it says so right away and offers only alternatives that work.
  2. Look up every ID. It looks up the ID of each format, channel, device, geography and demand partner instead of guessing.
  3. Build the targeting. It builds the package targeting and always excludes made-for-advertising (MFA) inventory.
  4. Forecast (narrow targeting only). For a small target, such as one city or a short site list, it offers a forecast. The forecast creates nothing.
  5. Confirm with you. It checks that the deal name is not already in use, then shows a summary of the deal. It creates nothing until you say yes.
  6. Create the package and the deal. It creates the package first, then the deal with a status of Paused, and waits for OpenX to assign the deal ID (OX-...).
  7. Activate on your go. It activates the deal only when you ask. A status of Publishing is normal: the deal’s audience is still exporting, and the deal becomes Active on its own.

What You Get

A summary table with the deal name, deal ID, status, price (or the 0.01 minimum), DSP and the exclusions applied. The assistant then offers to activate the deal on your go.

The deal’s full targeting, such as geography, exclusions and content categories, may not be visible right after creation, because OpenX processes it in the background. If the assistant cannot show it right away, ask it to check again later.

Safeguards

  • Nothing is created until you confirm the summary.
  • Deals are created, paused, and activated only when you ask.
  • If a create call times out, the assistant searches for the deal by name before trying again, so it does not create duplicates.

Example Prompts

“Create a mobile banner deal in Zurich for The Trade Desk, starting next Monday, for one month.”

“Can I add a viewability threshold to a CTV deal?”
